A Guide to Backpacking and Camping

Camping is a popular outdoor recreation in the United States. If you are having our first camping adventure, backpacking is the best way to bring the things that you need. Here is a basic guide for those who are just starting in their camping adventure.

How to load a backpack

To load a backpack properly, make sure that you pack your bag that will remain comfortable when you hike to the camping site. The general rule is that the weight of your backpack should be under 20 pounds otherwise it wouldn’t be that comfortable to carry it. Note that there are two available backpacks – internal frame and external frame.

1. External frame backpack. Put your sleeping bag under the pack. The lightest gear or equipment should be at the bottom. The mid-weight gears (pots and clothing) should be in the middle. The heavy ones (tent, stoves, water bottle) should be at the top, against the frame, or near the shoulders.

2. Internal frame backpack. With this type of backpack, you load items differently from the external frame where the lightest gears are packed towards the top and the heavy gears are in the bottom of the pack.

Things you need to do before backpacking and camping

Before you head on to your camping adventure, make sure that you have all the things you need to bring with you. This is because you will be out there in the middle of nowhere and there are no stores or malls that you can go to buy your things just in case you have forgotten it. It is suggested that you make a checklist so that you won’t forget the necessary gears and things that you need when camping.

Check out and make a research at different sites in the net of the following:

1. Things you need to bring and load in your backpack
2. Places to camp – where is the best place or spot to camp
3. Activities that you can do when in the camping site

Always ensure safety and comfort to make your camping adventure worthwhile and fun.
